Half or Whole Hog Purchases
Our main business is providing half or whole hogs for processing out.
Typically there is a waiting period of at around 30 days before a slaughter date can be acquired. We recommend you reserve your hog if needed by a specific date as early as possible to ensure you can be accommodated.
Hogs sold as half or whole include transport to the butcher of our choice or to a butcher facility chosen by our client within 100 miles of Brantley AL. If choosing your own butcher facility you must make the appointment yourself and provide us with the details.
Each hog is priced individually based on the expected hanging weight. There is a 10% margin of error on our projected hanging weight meaning that if we estimate hanging weight at 150 lbs and the hog weights less then 15 lbs less than that no refund is due. If the hog weighs more then 15 lbs less then a refund of $3.60 per lb outside of that margin of error will be due. No refund or additional charge is due if a hog weights more then the projected hanging weight. In most case a hog will weight more than the projected hanging weight. We require a 25% down payment at the time you chose your hog and sign the purchase contract. The remaining amount is due by the due date on your contract which is 7 days before the hog is to be delivered to the butcher. You must also provide your filled out cut sheet for the butcher at this time. We accept payment via Zelle, Cashapp, Paypal, or Cash. We do not accept checks.
What you pay to us is the price for the hog and does not include the cost to process the hog by the butcher which is a separate fee. The processing fees vary depending on how you want your meat cut, packaged, and how much of it you wish to be made into sausage or smoked.
The average 280 lb market hog will weigh about 200 lbs give or take hanging weight or around 100 lbs per half. The average cost of processing tends to be around $150 for a half hog.
Half Hog full cost on average is $500 when all is said and done. This is not an exact price just an average it could be a bit more or less depending on your choices with the processing and the weight of the hog.
A half hog will typically yield:
- 20-25 lbs of pork chops or loin roast.
- 15-18 lbs Ham
- 7 lbs of bacon
- 2 Shoulder Roasts
- 10 lbs of Sausage or ground pork
- 1 rack of spare ribs
- 2 Hocks
For a whole hog you simply need to double the above numbers.
How our process works:
- You order a whole or half hog from us and receive, sign, and remit the hog purchase contract along with your deposit of 25% of the total hog purchase price listed on your contract. These deposits are NOT refundable unless we cannot supply the hog for the slaughter date you are contracted for. Please thoroughly read your contract. Deposits can be made via Zelle, Paypal, Cashapp, or in cash. We do not accept checks.
- You receive a cut sheet for our processor and fill it out with your choices and provide that back to us with your remaining balance due at least 7 days BEFORE the slaughter date. The slaughter date AND the due date for your payment will both be listed on your purchase contract.
- On the slaughter date we will transport the hogs to the processor.
- The processor will alert you when your hog is finished processing and ready to pickup and the amount owed. You will then go to the processor pay your processing fees and pickup your hog. (We recommend bringing 110 cooler per half of hog you are purchasing).
